The sound of piano fills my room.
I can almost see her in my mind,
Legs spread in that way she has,
Fingers flying,
Flying
Across the keys like sparrows, doves,
Startled into gracefulness.
Out she jumps at me,
That red-haired girl from the box.
Out of the box, how does she do it?
How does she make those notes fly from her fingers in waves?
While her voice,
Her voice,
Mutters, screams, trickles from those big lips
Beautifully into the microphone?
I doubt I’ll ever know,
So I’ll just close my eyes, smile, and listen
