It’s just a night, however long it may seem
That we see our light reflected in the stream;
The gray waves break you – make you wanna scream
But you know you’ll wake to just another dream,
So she took her oar and she gave it a throw
And asked me how much more she had to row,
She said I boated my mile but your water got higher,
Now I’ve floated awhile, but my arms are getting tired.
I said, I know that we just fell asleep
But for a simple mind, this life is too deep;
Sometimes you’re blind to the love that you make
‘Till it’s lost and you find you’d rather be awake…
So sing me a lullaby, just like a friend,
And wish me goodbye so I can pretend
That I faced the danger back at the bend
And you weren’t such a stranger here at the end –
We played the game until the morning waterfall
But I’m afraid this became a nightmare after all;
I passed up life, waiting for perfection
Now at last you’re left with just your own reflection.
We sleep to forget, but old memories linger
To keep our regret, with a cold icy finger
Still pointing behind us and haunting our slumber
‘Till we finally find what we want to remember –
As I spoke, she stared deep into her eyes
And I woke somewhere beneath bluer skies,
She let out a scream – she said just for fun,
But I noticed that the stream had only just begun.
So maybe we found the beauty of the trance –
That each moment brings us each a new chance,
And the dawn shows whether our stream leads home
Or if together we choose to dream all alone.
