ANNOCEMENT
“Time to rest now,” he whispered into my ear, sending an affectionate chill down my back and into my toes.
“I…don’t…need…to,” I mumbled, but my body disobeyed me and fell asleep.
I went spiraling down a dark tunnel until I reached my destination. Here in the dream, my shoulder was not injured, but I was a ghost swirling around were I was just lying. I saw my injured shoulder on my perfectly sculpted body and winced thinking of how much that hurts. My image was lying on the only spot of soft grass, I noticed.
Hiram was sitting on a large rock, watching my image; nothing passed his all seeing eyes. He saw the faint rise and fall of my chest, the way my cheeks slightly reddened when I felt a cold breeze; it also didn’t pass his inspection that my shirt was hanging at such a way that it was showing a substantial amount of the flawless skin on my stomach that had just the right amount of muscles.
At the same time as Hiram, I noticed two very large vampires step out of the shadowy forest. I could tell that they were much more powerful than the last ones we fought, and the only option was to run. Hiram knew it too, but he would not go anywhere without me, and I was in no condition to run since I wasn’t even awake yet. He took a crouched position by me that was clearly protective. They laughed at his feeble attempt, for it was no secrete that he couldn’t beat him by himself. If only I was awake, I thought.
Then I was suddenly sucked into the vortex again, but this time when I landed I was in the real world, with a paining arm and a fury so deep it could destroy. My eyes snapped open to find the men exactly where they were in my dream; a smirk planted on their face and excitement in their hearts. I rapidly leaped up to crouch beside Hiram. My arm hurt from the sudden movement, but I swallowed down the erupting scream. Hiram’s face was filled with surprise, but I slightly nodded, not even a fraction of an inch, and he shifted to attack position. The men laughed at us, underestimating our combined skills. I smirked, knowing what they would be in for.
“Don’t kill the girl…I got dibs on her when we’re through. She could be…” he raised his eyebrows in an over exaggerated flirtatious motion when he found the right word, “…exciting.”
I barred my teeth in a threatening motion, then, a loud growl came. It took me a minute to realize that it wasn’t me. I glanced over at my partner, surprised to find the terrifying noise coming from him. He was in a full snarl and his chest was shaking from the intensity of the growl. It was a mixture of a hiss, snarl, and growl and the effect had me looking at my loved one in sheer horror. He was evidently infuriated at the proposition that I would fall into the hands of enemy.
I am not sure what triggered it, but suddenly memories came flooding through my gates. The memories were of pain and suffering.
“Samuel,” I gasped at the leader, staggering back.
“Yes, I was wondering when you would notice. After all I did leave my mark on you last time we had one of our ‘sessions’.”
I was back in attack mode.
“You left more than one mark if I remember right.”
He laughed that sinister laugh that I remember all too well, and that was his downfall.
Hiram finally realized what we were talking about. Instead of shaking with anger as he usually does, he took it all out on the very man that had caused all my pain. He leaped on him and pinned him to the ground. My torturer’s friend tried to leap on top of Hiram, but I got to the enemy faster. I grabbed the back of my enemy’s shirt and flung him to the ground. He tried to get up but I was standing on his chest. I was so angry I could practically feel my eyes swimming with anger. As he struggled to breathe, he looked into my eyes and evidently saw what I felt. He stopped struggling and stared into my eyes. I did not falter. I jumped high in the air and landed squarely on his windpipe. He was dead on the spot, the last thing he saw were my furious eyes.
Hiram was still on top of Samuel, but he was struggling to keep his position. I walked over to them and clapped my hands loudly. They both stopped struggling and looked up at me. They were both equally startled by my eyes, but Hiram got over it quicker, because he knew that the anger was not directed at him, Samuel though didn’t have the comfort of that knowledge.
I smiled a sweet smile that didn’t really match my fiery eyes, and tilted my head as if to ask, “May I?” Hiram nodded as if to say to say, “Certainly.”
As he jumped off, I swiftly slid on top of Samuel. I pinned his arms to the ground as my eyes glowed with hatred. He seemed to know that those eyes would be the last thing he will ever see.
“I didn’t want to do it, really. She made me do it. I really actually liked you since you were you were so brave and never gave up on your sister,” he whimpered, hoping to flatter me and make his suffering less. “Remember that time I had to chain you by your hands in the air and whip you while circling you…do you remember that?” I could tell he was trying to make me forget my anger and remember my pain so he could overpower me and get away, but I wasn’t falling for it.
I leaned in by his ear and whispered so only he could hear me.
“You’re lucky I am merciful and letting you die quickly.”
He paled. Then I put my lips on his neck, let my teeth come out, and tore being very carful not to drink his blood. He was dead.
Hiram stared in amazement. As I looked into his face, my adrenaline rush suddenly stopped and I felt my body being overcome with pain. I stopped breathing and my body folded as I fell to the ground.
“Zoe!” That was the last thing I heard as Hiram ran up to catch me.
