Beginning’s end promises a glorious exit.
The end does not draw attention or shout,
Sign of day merely sneaks, slowly sinking
As horizon prepares to absorb its bulk.

Good friend that earth is, she darkens
Generously accommodating, complimenting.
Colors first in line are bashful
Afraid to make too bold a statement.

As gravity tugs with the help of West,
Esteem builds, intensity deepens,
True brilliance is revealed, unafraid
To show its magnificent inner hue.

At this precise moment, this pinpoint of time
Just when it is painful to look but foolish not to,
When the ever peaceful sound of horses
Grinding their grain carries over miles,

Hands feel empty and fingers ache
With longing to reach this hue
To butter up and pull, stretching
As taffy to the point of sticky snap.

Massaging, rolling, into a crayon,
Ending the centuries old plight
Of children and artists alike
Searching for ‘Sunset’.
