Little baby dressed in white
Looking at me, shining bright
You were born upon this night
But not from my flesh and not from my blood
Little smiles and little sighs
Hope and life shine through your eyes
I’m trying to internalize
That you’re not of my flesh and not of my blood
Little hands that aren’t like mine
Hair and skin of a different kind
Resemblances we will not find
You are not of my flesh and not of my blood
But in my heart a love so true
Deep and tender, honest, new
I didn’t know my love for you
Would conquer the flesh and trump the blood
Something in me wasn’t whole
Where there was empty now feels full
In your face I see your soul
Your perfect flesh and precious blood
Our two hearts, they beat as one
You've made me a parent and you are my son
How sweet our life that’s now begun
Transcending flesh transcending blood
Born of another and given to me
More blessed and grateful I could not be
For you and I are family
Our flesh, our blood, our souls, our heart
For now and all eternity.
