This is a very short story that I wrote a few years back. I've tried to improve upon it but to no avail. I like it as it stands.

He appeared the morning after the city council approved development on the spot of grass once known as O'Cayz Corral. And he spent the summer there, legs crossed, hands folded, his ears connected to an iPod that never needed charging. Each night his followers blanketed him with the fliers of expired rock shows and kept watch.
On the morning they broke ground, the construction crew whisked him away in a white, Ford Econoline Van with - many swore - government plates. During the commotion the iPod fell from his feeble hands and into those of a follower.
It was later discovered that of all the iPod's obscure songs, not one was released after January 1, 2001, the day the venerable music establishment burned to the ground. To this day it is the preferred music source played at local house parties, and no matter how many hands it passes through, no one ever recalls needing to charge it.
