A great read, really contrasts the feel of dealing with life in the officer's
hierarchy versus surviving in the jungle with the GIs.

How they dealt with the surrendering Japanese also shows
why there weren't many taken prisoner.

I could read this one again. It sets in neatly with the time
right after 'From Here to Eternity'.

Interesting about having to use the word "Fug" for cursing. A few months
after publication, it was oked to use the real F word. That had Mailer
cursing!

The 1958 movie is horrible.
