The story of three children trapped with an unstable, mentally and emotionally abusive mother kept me reading. I was hoping to learn that she (the mother) suffered from something like bipolar disorder, but that was never discussed.
This is written as a letter from one child, Matt, to his little sister, Emmy. It was a little tiring how often the author referred called Emmy by name, but I learned to ignore it.
Content warnings: child abuse. A mother who randomly flies off the handle, stalks people, threatens, does drugs and brings strange men into the lives of her kids. Also forces a very young girl to drink alcohol. Characters consider killing each other. I'd recommend for mature kids of at least 14.
