i'm kind of surprised this was written in the 2000s... i mean, it seemed so dated, i was SURE it had to have been written in the 90s. i mean come on, vhs tapes? no cell phones? please.

this was a pretty good story. three sons have to find their inheritance in the deep south american jungle because their rich father feels that they've grown too soft. but the sons aren't the only ones searching for the treasure - which is estimated to be somewhere around 500 million dollars. it's a lot like indiana jones, only not as good (more contrived, less character development).

one thing that really annoyed me is that the author seemed to REALLY like tom. a little too much. i mean, he was practically a marty-stu. after going to costly medical school, he spends his time helping the horses of navajo indians on a settlement basically free of charge. while other characters constantly make fun of his brothers, tom is described as being one to reckon with, admirable, honest, badass, etc. he even wears cowboy boots. he slays an anaconda AND a jaguar - with a machete. oh, and get this! the female character who was ENGAGED to someone else decides that tom is much more of a manly man than her fiance. bleh.
