I'm not married, but the principles Gottman recommends are crucial to anyone in a serious relationship. He explains his seven principles, focussing on ways to keep things positive, and includes exercises/games to do with your partner. His principls are based on several years of research on couples. At times scary, it's hard to argue with his theories, given that they're based on years of observation and make a lot of sense.
