This is the first in a series revolving around widow ellie Quicke who has to deal with a cantankerous elderly aunt, a steamroller of a daughter, and finding her own identity after the death of her husband. I found Ellie to be slightly irritating at first because she appears so helpless and downtrodden. However through solving a local murder, she gradually finds strength and realizes she can make a life for herself. I read all of the series and found them quite enjoyable. I am looking forward to the newest installment this summer.
