Summary: The bizarre, heartwarming story of Stanley Yelnats, a boy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is carted off to a juvenile detention center where he and the other boys are forced to dig holes in the dry sun-baked heat of Texas. The story traces his ancestry back to the original people who lived on the land. Stanley's life story become intertwined with Zero's. In the end, Stanley breaks the curse that has been on his family for generations.
