really liked it
bookshelves: adventure, coming-of-age, fantasy, teen
Read from April 20 to 21, 2010

First, my complaint: This heroine spent way too much time unconscious - she fainted at least once every eight pages. Maybe the author was avoiding writing long and tiresome scenes, as the protagonist was always blacking out right in the thick of things, when she came too someone else would always sum up what she/we missed in a paragraph or two.

Other than that, this was a great book. The protagonist has her believable weakness and strengths, the guts and courage to get things done, and the right motivation. She's stubborn, intelligent, and plucky. The tale was well told and seems to be an excellent lead-in for the sequel, which I am requesting from the library.

I would recommend this for younger readers, as it is short and easy to read with a relatively fast pace. Maybe 8th graders.
