Courtney Crumrin, Vol. 1: Courtney Crumrin & The Night Things (Courtney Crumrin (Graphic Novels)) by Ted Naifeh
Light-hearted, yet not stupidly so. Fun. There are interesting characters that I wanted to know a little more about (namely the grand-uncle, though the girl's parents definitely made an impression on me) -- so I'm curious whether the rest of this series will be as episodic.
The art's beautiful. I'm a sucker for well done black-white-only artwork. Many artists err on being either too simplistic for my tastes, or they are not able to work the negative and positive space in a way that doesn't come across as being too busy once they start to add the detail. There are no such problems here. Also, why aren't there more people reading this?
This is a perfect rec for the young teenage girl manga crowd while stilling being perfectly accessible for people of many other types.
