Read from April 19 to May 01, 2010

There are many moments of fine, well-wrought prose, and a good dose of good-natured humor and humanity. The first half is more likeable, though, almost like "Hunger" or "The Man Who Disappeared," but the second half is a less convincing domestic drama of entrepreneurial aspirations, infidelity, and disappointment. Some of the characters are too flat and predictable, but in general it's a novel that I think Asian American writers should be proud of.
