About mysteries and thrillers in general: I really like them and I probably read more of this genre than others. But I don't really care about "who did it" very much, usually I don't even remember who did it for very long. I like mysteries because in the good ones the stories move well. Also they frequently have great peirpherals such as extra facts about interesting miscellaneous subjects, good atmosphere, setting and local location information, and continuing characers with back stories.
Cornwell's are about a medical examiner, so they have CSI type science. I started reading them in order written because I wanted to get the back stories of the supporting characters, Lucy, Pete and Benton straightened out. This was one of the best! The plots do have a bit of similarity: terrible murder, Kay is figuring it out, Kay and/or Lucy/Pete/Benton are theatened personally! Kay escapes danger, saves friends and bad guy is caught.
