Lady Jacinda Knight comes from a notorious family. Her brothers are worried that she might follow in the footsteps of their notorious and have therefore affianced her to their next-door-neighbor, a widower who Jacinda does not love. In anger, she decides to run away to Paris. But she is stopped when the leader of a gang, Billy Blade, finds her in his territory and, recognizing her, returns her to her brothers.
But a rival gangleader sets Billy up and the only way to save himself and his men is to call in his father, a powerful Marquess. Billy had run away from home when he was thirteen because of the abuse heaped on him as the second son. Now, his older brother is dead and Billy is the Earl of Rackford. He decides that, since he has to rejoin the ton anyway, he might as well claim the willful beauty as his bride.
