Piet Hein's Grooks are timeless pinches of wisdom that never fail to make me smile and make me a little depressed that there aren't more. I wish I could afford his collected grooks books, compromising all six grook books into two volumes, but alas, they are a Danish only print book and beyond my budget. Take this awesome bit, which has been copied in movie scripts, novels and plays the world over:

"Whenever you're called on to make up your mind,
and you're hampered by not having any,
the best way to solve the dilemma, you'll find,
is simply by spinning a penny.
No - not so that chance shall decide the affair
while you're passively standing there moping;
but the moment the penny is up in the air,
you suddenly know what you're hoping."
