i switch tenses all the time when i write in english. bule friend asked me why. tried to correct me. i said have u read angela carter? the bloody chamber? tense-switchingly good. this is so much more than just a post-modernist mash-up of classic gothic tales (cf. intan paramaditha's retelling of gothic theoris in sihir perempuan) it's also a send-up, a celebration of, an idiosyncratic appropriation of, everything and more than you think gothic is capable of.
