Apex Hides the Hurt: A Novel by Colson Whitehead
I'm torn between 3 stars and 4.... Whitehead does a wonderful job of getting inside the head of the conflicted main character (who is never named). The whole theme of names is fascinating. And the writing is ever so fun, witty and quotable. On the other hand, I'm not sure I got anything deeper than "that was interesting and I enjoyed it" out of Apex, which is sort of a prerequisite for getting four stars. But I'd definitely recommend this one.
