bookshelves: tween-boys

This story is about a boy named Danny Walker who wants to be a basketball player. He looks up to his Dad, Richie Walker, a star who led the travel team to the national championship when he was a kid. The only problem is that he is really small and he is not allowed to play on the team because he lacks the physical stature. This team is coached by his father’s old adversary named Mr. Ross.
Danny’s Dad suggests that they start their own travel team. Danny’s Dad, Richie, was injured in a car accident which made him unable to play basketball again but he is determined to teach his son the game. They work hard to find talented players since many joined Mr. Ross’ team. Danny believes that he is just as good as the other kids despite his small stature. Is he? Will he be able to lead his travel team to the national championship like his Dad did? Is wit and courage more important than physical prowess? This is a great read for kids that love team sports and know about all the different skills that are required to be a true winner.
