This is another haunting classic. In a lot of ways this book is scarier than some written today – there is more left to the imagination, which tends to make any book more thrilling. By no means does this book terrify; you will not have to leave lights on when going to bed – but this book does stay with one and gives one a pause when seeing the fog roll in.

The atmosphere is what really brought me into the story. I could feel the cold, damp mist; see the crumbling castle; hear the wolf howls in the night.

I recommend this book for anyone wanting a haunting experience, but don’t expect to spend sleepless nights listening for scratches at your window.
