Alright, you've heard all the hype about this book, now is the time to finally read it because it really is that great. I've heard George Pelecanos and David Simon say that they think this is the "Grapes of Wrath" of our generation, and I have to agree. "The Wire" could not have come about without this book. 100 years from now, this novel will still stand as an in-depth exploration of what it was like to grow up without a prayer of a chance in the inner-city. Price doesn't get up on a soapbox and yell about how society has failed these kids, yet that is what he is doing by telling this story. The dead-on dialogue and characterization make this story come to life in a way that I think is very rarely achieved.
