So, in addition to the humor for which Roach is famous, really - the footnotes are irresistible! - and the topic of sex and science - what could be more intriguing? - Bonk brings a real elucidation to the study of sex. What seems apparent, at the end, is what biases have shaped our study of sex, how drive and ability and orgasm have been studied as discrete phenomena, and how insufficient that study is to explain the hows and whys of good, healthy sexual relationships. While I certainly know more about the biology of sex and the many twists and turns made in the study of the same, I'm not certain that any of Roach's information could improve the life of someone struggling sexually ... kind of a sad conclusion for an overview of sex research done around the world. But she certainly does make me laugh!
