Nathan's review
The Covenant by James A. Michener
I am going to call this book the anti-Jane Goodall, or possibly "Reason for Despair". This book is filled from front to back with evil and human tragedy with very little respite. If you don't mind the death, destruction, and poorer look at humanity, it is filled with interesting historical facts and events, and easy to read. In my mind its one redeeming moment (all too short) was a crazy wanderer who forged a deep rough and tumble friendship with a hyena -- Swartz -- that reminded me so much of a friend of mine and his crazy cat as to be touching.
