Laura this is one of sister sarah's all time favorites. if you mention it to her on facebook, it will blow her mind.

i really like it, too. his early stuff is impressive imo -- garp, cider house, even hotel new hampshire. i liked some of his later work, but he started to lose me with son of a circus. i liked that one they made into a movie with jeff bridges (christ, he's good).

owen meany has one of the most visceral scenes ever written... have you gotten to the bit before the vietnam war? when owen helps out his friend? i swear, i could smell the rubbing alcohol. i was THERE.

Ben Roth I liked it a lot. Fascinating book for an atheist to write. I think I'm going to try Cider House next.
