A long-time fan of the tales of King Arthur, I found this fascinating. Steinbeck re-worded Mallory's works in a more modern language, in the hopes that younger generations would read and learn to love the Arthurian tales as he did. But not only did he re-word them, he lived them, visiting all the sites and doing years of research.

I lucked out getting this edition which includes letters to and from Steinbeck during the process of his research on this project which were very interesting to read - almost more interesting than the rest, though I did enjoy reading these stories as Mallory intended, which was Steinbeck's goal. I only wish he had finished the rest of the stories.
