This book is a completely pointless short-term Colbert ego extension written purely as part of his act. While I enjoy Colbert's show, the pompous egomaniac persona works a lot better on screen than it does in print, and it really seems that most of the time Colbert's attempts to extend the persona into an inappropriate medium are a bridge too far. I remember at the time this came out Colbert and Stewart were sniping at each other in-character over which show had the better book - frankly, America: The Book , while often trite and overdone, at least had its funny moments. There's nothing funny in this one unless you find Colbert's persona so amusing that you're willing to overlook the utter lack of non-referential humor contained within.
