There is no justice in the world. What is it about certain British actors that means they not only act, but sing, dance, play various musical instruments and are effing good writers?

Seriously? This book, by Dr House himself, is hysterically funny with rapid-fire dialogue and a fair amount of action. I have recommended it to several like-minded people and they've all loved it, too.

Give it a shot.

And I guess it's okay that there is no justice in the world, if it means I get to read books like this.

Iain Brown Try thinking of him as a comic instead. He's a great actor largely because as a great comic his sense of timing and drama is impeccable. Paul Reiser was such a brilliant villain in Aliens I have trouble seeing him as a comic. But as a comic, Hugh Laurie has been writing sharply witty prose since long before becoming Greg House :). I don't think it's that he's British, I think it's that he's very, very funny.

Oh, I know he's a comic, but he's also a good actor (as in House MD). And I knew he was a writer. As for being British--it just seems there are so many multi-talented British entertainers. Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson (with her Emmy for her adaptation of Sense and Sensibility) and so many others.

Iain Brown Can I counter with Matt Damon and Robin Williams? :) And while I think Stephen Fry is completely brilliant, I don't think he's a great actor.

There may be something to the British entertainment industry encouraging more versatility than Hollywood, but I think Hugh Laurie would be equally amazing had he been born in the US...

Iain Brown Oh, and I very much do intend to read this book. I should add it to my list.

Patricia Burroughs The first page is masterful.

Iain Brown Oh, that is bloody brilliant. One of the best introductions ever.

Iain Brown It's okay to hate Hugh Laurie. He hates himself. http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPla...

Unfortunately that clip wasn't included in the full interview on the following day.

Patricia Burroughs I know. I've read a couple of things about his depression or whatever it is, and his attitude. Stephen Fry certainly is a lot cheerier. I'll listen to that clip. Thanks for the link.
