I got this book from my friend Danielle for my birthday. I was surprised to see this book, because she is always yelling at me to stop reading so many fantasy books and start reading her books. I secretly think that she has really given up on me. I loved this book though. I tell Danielle all of the time that she knows me too well, and her buying me this book just proves my point even further. I found the plot to begin with very interesting, because I have seen plenty of retellings of Cinderella and fairy tales like that, but I've never seen a retelling of Princess and the Pea. It was beautifully written and I've never been verry clear on what exactly happened in The Princess and The Pea, so I was enjoyed very much what Debbie Viguie turned the story into. This was the story of a farmer's daughter named Violet, who meets Prince Richard, the prince of the land and instantly falls in love. Richard falls in love as well, but he knows that he must marry a princess. Then Violet discovers that she is really the lost princess of the land who disappeared when her parents were murdered seventeen years before. With this knowledge, she travels to the castle and enters in the games to win the right to marry the prince. She is competing against eighteen other princesses who all want the same thing that she wants, but for different reasons, she soon discovers that she is the onlly person there for love. She and Richard embark on a journey to prove that she is the best person for him to marry and this weaves into an exelent plot. I would recomend this book to anybody, even if you don't like fairy tales. It is a story of love, friendship and perseverance and I wouldn't change anything about it!
