I loved learning more about the Fin de Siecle and Belle Epoch setting. I did cry at the end, which is always a good sign. There were a lot of characters and I am sure that the familial blurrings were intentional such that even towards the end I had to keep reminding myself of the genealogy! Also towards the end, the novel suddenly leapt into contemporary relevance in our politically volatile nation/world and I couldn't put aside parallels.
I put this into the highly recommended pile!
