The writing style was really smooth, and characterization, at least of Miranda, glowed. I swear I know a Miranda or two: self-deprecating clever quiet women who really deserve a hero or two to give them the time of day. The point of the book, I think, was that if you hang around long enough, some day the hero is going to notice you. Maybe even sleep with you. And, if his family badgers him about it enough, he might even marry you.
I never really came to like Turner, but I understood him, and that is a testament to good writing. Also a sign that Quinn can write her way out of a box: the fact that this book contained every trope and cliche in the regency genre and still kept me reading to the end.
In short: I enjoyed the writing thoroughly, so if someone can recommend a Julia Quinn with a scrap of original plot, I'd appreciate it.

which Julia Quinn's have you read? I've read a few of the Bridgerton series and have enjoyed those fairly well for the family scenes and the fact that marriage doesn't immediately equal happily ever after with no further difficulties
Miranda Cheever was the only Quinn book I've read so far. Thanks for the Bridgerton rec. I'll look 'em up. I've told el hubby that I would really like an Amazon gift certificate for holidays... :)
