Mischa I'm going to be kind of a dick because everyone loves this, but it's just not a 5-star book. The stuff on Newspeak is amazing, but the story just doesn't really get at the moral dilemmas and coping behaviors that people live with under totalitarianism compared to something like Koestler's "Darkness at Noon" or Milosz's "The Captive Mind." It's a compelling read, but it's sort of like Intro to Authoritarianism for 8th Graders.

Alex R Yeah I mean, in terms of literature I don't like it as much as some of the other great dysphoric novels (I think Brave New World is way better) - but yeah, it's definitely introductory. It's more what he's saying and how much I like the message that warranted the 5 stars.
