Delightful novel about Asha, her sister Reet, and her mother, who in 1974 move in with Asha's father's family when their beloved Baba emigrates to the U.S. to find better work. Asha hides out in the roof to record her experiences in her "Secret Keeper," her diary, and meets reclusive next-door-neighbor Jay, who becomes her dearest friend and an escape from the restrictions of life with her Grandmother and Auntie. When the whole family's welfare is threatened, Asha makes a shocking decision that changes not only her life, but that of her sister and mother as well.
