Published in 1926. History of the first "microbe hunters". Each of 11 scientists gets a chapter (Pasteur gets two). The writing style was odd; it was as if he were writing for young people but the ideas are certainly adult. Good introduction to these scientists and their often horrific way of experimenting. Be aware--it does have a number of very racist comments that would have gone unremarked at the time.
