Lord Valentine's Castle (Majipoor Cycle, Book 1) by Robert Silverberg
In Lord Valentine's Castle, Robert Silverburg introduces us to a vast world set in the future. The book moves slowly, but, like so many great Fantasy books, the story is about the journey and about discovering this all the nooks and crannies of Majipoor. The book is beautiful and memorable. Part science-fiction, part fantasy, Majipoor is one of my favorite places to visit and Lord Valentine's Castle is one of my favorite books to read.
