Marjorie Ingall betsy, would you say this is middle grade or YA?

Betsy Excellent question. They're selling it as YA, but a friend talked me into reading it by saying that it was a serious Newbery contender. They're not wrong, in that it would certainly do well with the 13 and 14-year-olds out there. And there's nothing inappropriate for kids here. I just think it's too sleepy (even with all the stuff that happens) for the younger crowd. I won't be pushing it for 5th graders. 7th graders.

Marjorie Ingall Thank you! I saw that Greenwillow called it YA, but the first reader review on Amazon (and hmph, WOULD THAT IT WERE YOURS) explicitly says it's middle grade and is *not* YA. Hence my bafflement. In any case, sounds like Josie won't be ready for it for a while.
