This is the first book I've read where I really didn't like the protagonist. She's not portrayed as an anti-hero or misunderstood. In fact, it is really hard to place your finger on what she is about.

Something about her makes me shrink away from her, yet she is so vulnerable. I wanted to protect her from herself. But that's hard to do in real life, much less after the story is already told.

It's not very long, but at times it can be intense. Sometimes the quiet scenes in this book were the most intense, the places where the deviation from the norm takes place. Normal is different for everyone, but the deviation here is barely deviation. Sort of an uncanny valley in portraying the truth of our loves and our lives, at times it strikes a bit too close to heart and soul, reminding the reader that we are not always perceived as we'd like to be and the struggle we have with our self-perception.
