This is Philip Roth. That said, you know it is about questions of assimilation versus retaining one's roots, about following in the footsteps of one's family and parents - or not and about male sexual fantasies. The characters were very interesting and although some of the situations stretched belief for the main character, it provoked great discussion at our book club. We are going to read Americal Pastoral next year.
