Lauren's review
How Sassy Changed My Life: A Love Letter to the Greatest Teen Magazine of All Time by Kara Jesella (Goodreads author!)
I loved "Sassy" and one of the ten things I would have saved from my flooded house would have been my collection of "Sassy" magazines. Reading this book brought back many memories of high school and even college.
But nostalgia aside, this book is really just one long NYT "Sunday Styles" piece, which is a disappointment. I don't know quite what I wish it could have been, because really there's nothing more to say than, "the magazine was great." It would have been nice if the authors could have done a little more to go into greater detail about the time period in which the magazine existed and if they could have talked more about how "Sassy" changed the atmosphere at that time and what its lasting effects were other than discussing that "Bitch," "Bust" and "VenusZine" came into existence afterwards. Ho hum.
But even so, any entry point for nostalgia about "Sassy" is much appreciated.
