Wow. This is one of those stories that I would scoff at if someone wrote it as purely fiction. Knowing that the overall story is true and based much on journals and first-hand accounts makes The Undaunted a POWERFUL and very moving story. I'm very glad I read it, even though I felt in the beginning that 800+ pages was a bit daunting and unneccessary. Now I see that Gerald Lund wanted us to have just a very small taste of the necessary "stickity tootie" that the early Saints had to accomplish their mission. I've been to many of the places mentioned in the story - including Bluff and Hole in the Rock - but now I want to go back and see them again with a fresh perspective. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in a powerful story of one group of pioneers determined to go through even when there was no way to go through.
