An Offer From a Gentleman (Bridgertons, #3)

Another enjoyable book by this author, despite being perhaps the weakest book of this series, at least of those I've read so far. The beginning is interesting, recalling the Cinderella story, but quickly takes its own course.
In this book we follow the story of the second Bridgerton brother, named Benedict, who at a masked ball falls for a girl dressed in white and silver. This girl is Sophie Beckett, illegitimate daughter of an earl, who at his death becomes a servant of her stepmother and two stepsisters. However, after finding out that Sophie has gone to the ball, her stepmother expels her and Sophie has to earn her living as a governess somewhere else. After two years, Benedict who in the meantime has held back his search for the unknown beauty that enchanted him that night, the two of them meet again. She knows his identity, but will he recognize her and even more, despite the hierarchical differences between them will they be able to stay together?
As I said, this volume seemed to me the weakest I've read so far. Rarely made me laugh, unlike others, and the chemistry between the two didn't also seem the best achieved. The character of Sophie seemed very interesting, independent and strong, but the whole situation of not saying who she really was bothered me a bit. I also hated that the male character just because he fell in love with a person of lower rank, urged her to become his mistress, despite her answer being no and her reasons to deny such a thing.
Still it is a good read and entertains.
