American Creation: Triumphs and Tragedies in the Founding of the Republic by Joseph J. Ellis
This book was phenomenal, in a nutshell. It was extremely fascinating and offered good, detailed accounts of several “dilemmas” that faced the early parts of the US existence, such as the debate about whether to amend or get rid of the Articles, how to deal with the Native Americans, Louisiana Purchase and the question of slavery. There was also new information, or at least information I wasn’t taught in school about these problems. What made this even more of an enjoyable read was his writing style. Ellis’ writing is very accessible and if he mentions another player, there will be a little bit of background information. He recognizes that there are others who might find the subject matter of interest that maybe haven’t studied this period in American history for some time.
Basically it boils down to the fact that I would highly recommend this book.
