I love post-apocalyptic books. The classic of the genre follows the pattern pretty well, largely because it helped set it: after a limited nuclear war, small pockets of the country are able to escape direct destruction. Quickly, though, consequences are felt through failure of communication, power, and transportation. Some people are able to deal with the changing situation, by reverting to pre-technology ways; other people try to acquire resources by force.
