The Fountain Overflows (New York Review Books Classics) by Rebecca West
One of the best books about what it actually means to be an artist.
I read this book years ago and have reread it several times since; it's one of my favorites. Have you read Black Lamb and Grey Falcon? Very long, but worth it. Take it slow and don't agonize about finishing. Close to the end, you won't want to put it down.
