This is one the Temperance Brennan books, and takes place in Charlotte. At the beginning of the book, Tempe is finishing up a case and trying to get out before she is pulled into another. She has a few days left before her vacation. When attending a BBQ she finds some bones and is drawn back into work on the day her guest is to arrive. She is called into a plane crash that same day and she sees the beginning of her vacation go up in smoke. Her guest is at her home when she finally gets home and she lets him know it will just be a little while before they can head to the beach. When it rains it floods and she is pulled into other cases. She brings her guest, Ryan, into the case. Driving between the Carolinas and getting to know Ryan better is proving to be trying. When she finally is on the trail of the killers, she is kidnapped. The story ends with her helping to close all of the cases and some of the culprits dying. This was a fascinating story with the customary twist at the end.
