This has a strong premise and deals with complex ideas, feelings, politics and more very well. It never gives easy answers about right or wrong. It looks at the issues clearly and never childishly, which it could have with such a young main character. However, Sam's voice is uneven and inconsistent throughout the book. And even though she deals well with the big stuff Kekla Magoon doesn't give her characters ad much flesh, making it tough to fully connect to the ideas.
