Advancing closer to penury, Lily Bart's future begins to remind me of what Edith Beales might have gone through when the money dried up, society lost interest, and opportunities faded with beauty. Brilliantly written and completely relatable to this day because, to some degree, doesn't everyone struggle between the heart's desires and practicality? The ending was fantastic in that it had numerous possibilities leading up to the last few pages.
