Let's begin with what I liked.

The story was a sweet love story with fantasy elements mixed in. The Caster world was fully realized and had elements I hadn't seen before. I'm jealous. Lena was a believable sixteen-year-old as was Link.

I'm on the fence about Ethan. Maybe losing a parent would make you act older, but he simply didn't feel like an average teenaged boy to me.

But what kept this book from being fully enjoyable were the Southern stereotypes. I grew up in a small town in North Carolina, and my husband grew up in Charleston. Neither one of us have ever known anyone who lived in a plantation house with a housekeeper. Our history classes didn't focus on only the Civil War, and most Southerners don't pay attention to re-enactments.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, and I probably will check out the sequel.
