Excellent but short book about black women "passing" as white during the Harlem Renaissance era. So many ideas and complex characters and social commentary in only about 80 pages. It's really about creating your identity, and what happens when that identity doesn't match what others want you to be. The way Irene treats her husband (and vice versa) could fuel a thousand term papers. A really great, short novel.
